About the Young Marines

Founded in 1959 in Waterbury, Ct. the Young Marines is a drug awareness program for all youth 8 to 18 years of age based on a Marine Corps theme.  The core values of the program is Teamwork, Leadership and Discipline, with a mission of  "strengthening the lives of America's youth."   It is also the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps' youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts.  The program is not an in your face program, but promotes the mental, moral and physical development of it's members through patriotism, community service and history.

The Shenandoah Valley Young Marines meet at the Winchester Elk’s Lodge 466 Front Royal Pike (Rt 522) Winchester, Virginia.  Please feel free to  visit us the 1st Sunday of each month, beginning at 1:30 PM and adjourning at approximately 5:00 PM.  Please keep in mind schedules change so check our calendar to make sure meeting times have not changed.

Learn more about the Young Marines program

Our program focuses on having a positive impact on young boys and girls through drug awareness, prevention, and American history. The Shenandoah Valley Young Marines attend many honorable events which educate them on the history of our country, as well as how to stay away from drugs. Today, our youth are at risk if parents and their communities do not get involved to help them focus on school, respect, vision, and leadership.  We will always remember that we are not training Marines, rather children. Our goal must be to provide these children with a fun training environment which will allow them to develop a sense of confidence and self-respect.  At the same time, we must ensure a disciplined and structured training atmosphere while maintaining a fun learning environment.
